Richard was one of the first mediators in the state of Massachusetts.  His mediation expertise strongly influenced his design and implementation of innovative advocacy, mediation and therapeutic programs that continue to support youth, adults and families in need. His accomplishments include developing model community mediation, peer mediation, court diversion and home based intervention programs.

Under Richard’s leadership, Solutions for Living was one of the first providers in Massachusetts to professionalize home based and community oriented services for DYS, DMH and DCF and the families and individuals they serve. Solutions for Living expanded further to include a conflict of interest case management contract through DCF and outpatient therapeutic services.   Richard trained mediators young and old throughout Massachusetts and the surrounding states. His passion for mediation influenced the creation of Solutions for Living’s highly effective peer mediation programs in area high schools beginning in 1993 which continue to flourish in Lynn English and Classical High Schools.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″ offset=”vc_hidden-md vc_hidden-sm vc_hidden-xs”][vc_empty_space height=”17″][vc_single_image image=”484″ img_size=”350×350″ alignment=”center”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner offset=”vc_hidden-md vc_hidden-sm vc_hidden-xs”][vc_column_text font_size=”20″]Richard passed away in 2015, but not before distinguishing himself for 41 years as a leader in meeting the needs of at-risk youth, adults and families throughout Eastern Massachusetts. In 2016, he was recognized by the Massachusetts Council of Human Services Providers, Inc for his contributions to the human services field.  He was the first recipient to be awarded the Chief Executive Officer Award posthumously.  His legacy lives on through the thousands of individuals served by Solutions for Living and the agency that will continue to innovate and thrive in his memory. He had an innate ability, wrapped in quick-wit, to engage youth, families, those he trained in mediation and his staff and then instill a sense of competence, confidence and hope in them which they continue to pass along to others.

Richard created a work culture that encouraged acceptance and collaboration. His unique style of management, empathy and belief in his staff resulted in high staff commitment, loyalty and passion for the work.
